cherry snow [11 Jul 2009|07:55pm]

[ mood | exhausted ]

The washer and dryer got delivered today. I'm considering them early birthday presents. The buttons light up and there are so many great options like "hand wash" and "tub clean". The best part is there will be no more lugging laundry around to different people's houses and disturbing their own laundry schedules. I can throw a bunch of clothes in the wash, make dinner and they'll be out of the dryer by the time we're done watching a movie. So much awesome.
My mom, grandma and I explored the Obon Festival today after I got off of work. We used to go every year, but stopped going as much when our lives started to get crazy. I forgot how wonderful it is. The food is always good, the performances are amazing and I love looking at all the bonsais they have. This time we went to see a friend perform a dance and she was fantastic. I got the teriyaki chicken with rice while my mom and grandma had the udon noodle soup and we had strawberry shortcake for dessert. Afterward I was really thirsty standing outside watching the performances so I bought a cherry snow cone that tasted exactly like a movie theater icee. No complaints from me!

Though I'll miss seeing my friends and family, there's a part of me that really can't wait to get back to Chico.

I've driven past the LA river so many times in the last week. It's just a good symbol of how much Southern California sucks when it comes to nature.

Once upon a time I was scared of spiders... [10 Jul 2009|12:26pm]

Last night as I was trying to sleep I felt something crawling on my arm. I shook it off, sat up and turned on the lights...a spider in my bed! The foul creature made the mistake of crawling onto my pillow which allowed me to fling it safely across the room, at which point I smote it mightily with a shoe (once it tried to flee from the pillow of course).

Hey!

Are you planning on attending Renegade Craft Fair in DTLA this weekend??
I'm planning on going on Sunday (and *maybe* Saturday after work) so sound off if you're going to be there, this weekend! I'm thinking about hosting a small Sunday-night afterparty at our loft, if people are sticking around until Monday. Artists, let me know if you're interested!

I'm leaving the house for the weekend to pet sit for a coworkers dog. 3 nights away from my new home and I'm not even going to be around for when the washer and dryer get installed. I have to quit this pet sitting business. Before leaving I felt like I had to get a bunch of stuff done. Erik and I went to Target and to Pier 1 to find new desks, I unpacked a bunch of boxes and got the living room and dining room under control. There is also this little table that was here when we moved in, in the kitchen. It had stains on it and was not taken care of very well. We found it to be really useful though, and started using it as a temporary coffee table until we get a new one. I had been meaning to paint it white and use it as my night stand with a pretty white fish bowl lamp, or possibly in the bathroom for storage. Last night I was fired up and got to painting and I got to add another completed item to my list. I finally feel like I accomplished some things.

These things make me happy right now: [08 Jul 2009|03:05am]

[ music | dino jr.-farm ]

Dinosaur Jr.-there is honestly no band that could ever sound like them and actually mean it. they were '80s hessians(see Deep wound) who started making real music that meant shit to them. The new record Farm is totally on par with anything of their real shit, like Bug, You're Living all Over Me, etc. There were a couple stinkers in there with terrible solos that weren't what the band should've been doing, but now that barlow is back their making great records.
White Problems-things are going awesome, we're touring in a month, and it's gonna be fucking fun as shit...I get to see hawks 3 nights in a row. Me and whitney and jake tonight talked about a possible west coast white probs/possible fathers tour in january. those shows will be ball busting.
Jake Cohen-the person that made me love playing music again, and being an adult about playing music...this was 2 years ago, but him being back in town and getting to talk and joke and talk about music. I was always 100 percet genuine with him about anything I did with music, and thats not necessarily the way shit works.

Found an opening for a job I might be almost qualified for (as a Bio lab tech). Started filling out the application. Got to the last page and found this prompt: "Please relate your personal relationship with Jesus Christ".
Shit, I don't think :

"Me and JC aren't on speaking terms. He seems to take offense to the notion that he was not, in fact, the son of God (whose existence is highly questionable in itself). Further, when I informed him that if his mother had by some miracle actually become pregnant without fertilization he would be a woman, not a man, he told me to burn in hell ."

would land me the job. I can BS most things, but I don't think I can pretend to be a Christian...and really I don't think I want to.

I always forget how delicious watermelon tastes, especially in hot & swampy-like weather. It even took the dreary out of the day. This is one of the rainiest summers I've ever lived through and that's saying a lot because Texas summers are full of sudden thunderstorms.

emotions and sunburn [06 Jul 2009|09:16pm]

oatmeal
are two of the things I am having right now. The emo has returned, which forces me to ask whether the prozac actually is doing anything other than making me weirdly spaced-out occasionally. But it's been a very fun couple of weeks; I went out to Mendocino and then up to Medford with Sarah, then hung out with my brother for a weekend, got a nice sunburn working on his property. i feel slightly less out of shape than I used to. and tomorrow is my 'orientation' for Chico State, and I'm unsure about what I need to bring; the official school line is that I have to bring proof of my childhood immunizations, but I honestly haven't seen them in 3 years, so I'm hoping they'll let it slide.

anyhow.

things proceed apace.

Christmas in July [06 Jul 2009|10:35am]

Things got a little stressful at the beginning of last week but by the end things were looking up. I got a raise at work which is pretty awesome. I feel much more confident about doing premier weekend now. Kind of like I know what I'm doing this time around. The 4th was spent at Jeff and Katy's family house where fireworks are legal. We had a wonderful time and got a beautiful show. Yesterday, after waking up earlier than expected, we got a visit from our landlord who had our window screens to put on for us. I didn't think anything of him at first, until Erik introduced himself and the guy said his name was Ross and I nearly fell over in my chair. I've been wanting to meet our landlord for ages now and he's exactly how I pictured him. He's really adorable and kind. After the excitement was over and I decided we needed to do laundry, Erik and I ventured out to try and find a washer and dryer for our empty laundry room. We went to Best Buy, Lowe's, some discount store, and to Fry's. The average looking washer and dryers were definitely affordable and they were good brands. I've always loved the look of front loaders though, and have always wanted a set and the LGs we found at Best Buy were perfect. We decided we had to check out Fry's prices to be safe and they were selling the set for 200 dollar less with bigger doors. They're delivering them for free this Saturday. Too exciting.

Long weekend feeling like a little hoarse... [05 Jul 2009|03:00am]

[ music | dinosaur jr. ]

These last couple days have been weird. I'm one of the main dudes in the kitchen at my work these days, and so I for the past couple weeks had a bit more stress on my plate...because summerfest makes us irradically busy...I've also ben stressed about band shit. played summerfest last night, played at garibaldi with john the savage and drugs dragons tonight. we cut out 2 songs on the set tonight because I literally couldn't make the noises needed for the songs. both shows made people way into us...we gave it our all as we do every night...the other two dudes in my band have weird dating drama that I hope doesn't matter, because it really shouldn't matter...we just play music and tell jokes.
Also...listening to dinosaur jr. right now is the best thing in my life right now.

.raw files? [30 Jun 2009|09:58am]

grassfire
so i shot a few photos in the .raw format on my Nikon D80 last night.
i just downloaded the photos, and now they're not on my computer. there's not showing up when i explore the folder with the rest of the non-.raw files, and don't show up when i browse through Photoshop.

and, of course, i've already cleared the memory card on the camera... any ideas?
